| Photovoltaic installations on roofs and terraces of school buildings | ||||
Improving building energy efficiency, production/energy savings, CO2 emissions reduction. |
Children-students and residents in the area/influence zone of the school, and trespassers from neighborhood districts. |

Photovoltaic systems will be installed on rooftops or roofs in 48 school premises with a maximum installed capacity of 10 KWp. Each installation includes solar cells, the power inverter DC to AC power, the measuring-recording system for the measurement of the systems, electronic billboard with the information of the facility to the public as well as the lightning protection installation. To ensure the economic efficiency of the systems, but also to ensure the artistic and secure implementation, there will be authentication of each installation according to EN 62446 (title: "Minimum requirements for documentation, testing for commissioning and inspection of P/V systems connected to electrical network”). After the installation (to the obligations of the contractor) their maintenance and insurance for three (3) years from the completion of the installation is included. The project is funded by the Municipality of Thessaloniki. |
Licensing of the installations from DEI SA. Certification of each installation by an independent, accredited institution by the National Accreditation System (ESYD). |
| Collaboration of employees with the competent services of the Municipality: Directorate of Urban Planning and Architectural Design (study), Directorate of Constructions and Maintenance (supervision of construction/installation), Directorate of Support of Civil Institutions. |
Thessaloniki, 48 school rooftops. |
| Environmental awareness of students (etc.) and familiarization with the operation of renewable energy facilities (students and teachers will be able to watch daily on a monitor to be placed in each of these schools, the electricity produced and the quantity of CO2 saved by the operation of the facility). |
The generated by the photovoltaic system electricity injected into the network, is billed from February 2015 until August 2015 by 115,00 € / MWh. The expected annual income from these facilities is 72.795,00 €. The total installed capacity is 480KWp, while the estimated annual specific energy yield is 1320KWh / KWp, so the estimated annual energy yield is 633,6 MWh. Production (in Greece) of 10.000KWh from RES prevents the release into the atmosphere of 9 tons CO2, so it is expected that the operation of these facilities will lead to saving 570 tons of CO2. Upgrading of school infrastructure (in synergy with other actions under the School Housing Program). |
