The Program began in 2022 and have been carried out consistently over time, continuing to this day.

Since 2022, HELLENiQ ENERGY has been implementing the multi-faceted Environmental Awareness and Action Program “Our Energy for a Better Future” aiming to strengthen environmental consciousness and improve the quality of life in the areas of Western Thessaloniki and the Thriassio Pedio.

The Program is developed across different thematic pillars that function in a complementary way and include urban infrastructure and environmental interventions, field activities in public spaces, and experiential education initiatives.

With the younger generation, Group employees, local authorities, and environmental organizations taking center stage, the Program achieves both immediate and long-term sustainable upgrades to the urban and natural environment of local communities.

To date, more than 3,600 students and 420 employee volunteers have actively participated in systematic environmental activities and interventions, contributing their energy to creating a positive environmental footprint.

These activities have included cleanups of public spaces, parks, and beaches, in collaboration with neighboring municipalities where the Group operates, as well as with environmental organizations such as WE4ALL and AGONI GRAMMI GONIMI. More than 3.5 tons of waste were collected during these cleanups. These efforts significantly upgraded the suburban environment, offered clean recreational spaces, and strengthened participants’ environmental awareness.

Simultaneously, extensive greening and public space improvement interventions were carried out to enhance the quality of life in local communities and improve the microclimate. Actions included planting over 300 trees, shrubs, and aromatic plants in urban parks and schoolyards; creating school and public gardens with automated irrigation systems installed by students and employee volunteers; building footpaths; and installing urban equipment such as benches and resting areas, which improved both the functionality and aesthetic of these spaces.

Interventions covered a total area of 2,300 sq.m., including parks in the municipalities of Megara (Theognidos Grove) and Delta (“Butterfly” Park in Nea Magnisia), generating a direct positive impact on residents’ quality of life, enhancing urban greenery, improving the local microclimate, and enriching biodiversity. These upgraded areas now offer modern recreational spaces for local and neighboring communities.

At the same time, the Program placed strong emphasis on educating the younger generation, recognizing the importance of instilling environmental awareness from an early age, thus cultivating the next generation of “environmental ambassadors.” As part of its second pillar, the Group implemented a series of educational initiatives with the support of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Religious Affairs, and in collaboration with neighboring municipalities, the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis & Stavroupolis, AGONI GRAMMI GONIMI, and the organizations The Bee Camp and Echedoros Nature. The focus was on experiential environmental education, strengthening the connection between local communities—especially the youth—and the natural world, promoting values such as recycling, circular economy, and biodiversity protection.

Activities focused on critical environmental topics such as biodiversity protection, the impacts of climate change, and the role of bees as key pollinators, a process vital for the reproduction of most plant species. Through interactive workshops and group games, children deepened their understanding and developed a hands-on relationship with nature. Additionally, the creation of constructions using natural materials such as clay, soil, and seeds enhanced their bond with the environment and nurtured their love and respect for nature.

In 2025, the Program continues with momentum. Already, over 1,000 students have participated in environmental education activities in collaboration with AGONI GRAMMI GONIMI, The Bee Camp, and MIO – ECSDE, learning about biodiversity protection and the water cycle. New beach cleanups were also conducted in Aspropyrgos and Kalochori, mobilizing 170 employee volunteers, who collected over 1,500 kilograms of waste and 5,570 cigarette butts.

With consistency, continuity, and a highly participatory character, HELLENiQ ENERGY’s Program actively reinforces environmental awareness, improves quality of life, and empowers local communities—nurturing a collective culture of respect and responsibility towards people and the environment.

The “Our Energy for a Better Future” Program is implemented in close collaboration with a broad network of stakeholders from the State, Local Government, the Church, Civil Society, and the educational community.

Specifically, the municipalities neighboring the Group’s facilities in Western Thessaloniki and the Thriassio Pedio actively participated in cleanup initiatives and public space interventions. The experiential educational activities were carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, and in cooperation with the Holy Metropolis of Neapolis & Stavroupolis.

Environmental organizations such as WE4ALL, AGONI GRAMMI GONIMI, SAVE YOUR HOOD, and MIO–ECSDE played a crucial role in both main pillars of the Program. The collaboration with specialized partners ensures the quality of interventions and the active engagement of the local community, amplifying the overall social and environmental impact of the Program.

The active participation of Group employees and students lies at the heart of the “Our Energy for a Better Future” Program.

As of last year, more than 420 HELLENiQ ENERGY employees, along with their family members, had volunteered in beach and park cleanups, tree plantings, and the upgrading of public spaces. In 2025, over 170 employees took part in cleanup actions in Aspropyrgos and Kalochori, in collaboration with the Save Your Hood movement.

At the same time, more than 4,600 primary school students from the regions of Western Thessaloniki and the Thriassio Pedio have actively participated in experiential workshops, environmental seminars, and hands-on activities to date.

Western Thessaloniki: Municipalities of Delta, Ampelokipoi–Menemeni, and Kordelio–Evosmos

Thriassio : Municipalities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Mandra–Eidyllia, and Megara

The “Our Energy for a Better Future” Program has had a strong social and environmental impact, achieving meaningful engagement of the local community and remarkable resonance among students, educators, and volunteers.

Between 2022 and 2024, more than 3,600 students took part in experiential and interactive environmental education activities, cultivating a deep sense of environmental awareness. Over 420 employees and their family members volunteered in cleanups, tree plantings, and improvements to shared public spaces.

More than 3.5 tons of waste were collected through cleanups of beaches and urban areas. In 2025 alone, over 1,500 kg of waste and 5,570 cigarette butts were removed from the beaches of Aspropyrgos in Western Attica and Kalochori in Western Thessaloniki.

More than 300 trees, shrubs, and aromatic plants were planted, and green spaces were created in schoolyards and parks, with automated irrigation systems installed by students and volunteers.

Public spaces totaling 2,300 sq.m. were functionally and aesthetically upgraded through targeted interventions in parks within the municipalities of Western Thessaloniki and the Thriassio Pedio. These projects had a direct positive impact on residents’ quality of life, significantly enhanced urban greenery, and contributed to improving the microclimate and biodiversity of the surrounding areas, while also offering modern recreational areas to the local population.

The overall initiative strengthened environmental education, empowered community participation, and cultivated a spirit of collective responsibility and sustainable coexistence with the environment. The Program continues to grow, consistently expanding its positive footprint.

With responsibility and vision, HELLENiQ ENERGY—aν energy Group guided by the principles of sustainable development—actively contributes to the empowerment of local communities neighboring its facilities by educating young people and mobilizing its employees. The Group continues to take steady steps and implement meaningful actions that help create a greener, more resilient, and better future for all.

The “Our Energy for a Better Future” Program is a key pillar of the Group’s ESG strategy, turning its commitments into concrete initiatives with a measurable positive impact. The active participation of over 600 employees and their families in cleanups, public space upgrades, and green planting initiatives has strengthened the spirit of collaboration and social contribution, highlighting the importance of collective action.

The Program also integrates and promotes key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by contributing to: the creation of sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), the enhancement of climate action (SDG 13), the protection of life on land (SDG 15), and the cultivation of partnerships with institutional, social, and environmental actors (SDG 17).

With its long-standing consistency and growing participation, the Program demonstrates HELLENiQ ENERGY’s firm commitment to responsible and sustainable operations—strengthening local communities and leaving a lasting positive footprint on both the environment and people’s daily lives.
