Diversity & Inclusion - Initiatives to support diversity & inclusion at MSD

Accepting diversity with the aim of equality and inclusion is a global priority of MSD and an integral part of our culture. At MSD Greece, we strongly believe in the values ​​of equality and inclusion, in respecting the personality of each individual and we see the strength and innovation in diversity. With the aim of establishing a DEI culture in the company, we invited the same employees to take part in networks and at the same time adopted a holistic approach to achieving the goal.

Starting with networks, we believe that by creating ambassador groups within the company we can inspire and unite in one direction a larger part of our employees. When our people themselves feel the freedom to create, bring new ideas and understand responsibility & accountability, then important projects are born! Thus, our two company Networks were created, the Women’s Network and the Next Generations Network, which passionately embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion and count 30-40 members each.

Continuing with the holistic approach, all together, meaning the Networks, HR and the internal communication department, we join forces and create separate actions that fall under a single Umbrella Campaign: Celebrating DEI. The central message is that MSD is an open working environment of equal opportunities and inclusion, where all employees can feel safe and free to bring their true selves to work. At the same time, and with the aim of ensuring that diversity, equality and inclusion are integrated throughout the life cycle of the organization, we have adopted the following 4 focus areas.

MSD Employees

The program is implemented steadily and every year the services are evaluated and newer ones are added.

With the aim of cultivating a culture in the company that embraces diversity and inclusion, we collaborate with different partners such as Women on Top, KINITRO, SKEP, Hands Up, THEAMA who always help us implement actions with great impact in the Organization.

In the last 2 years, we have implemented, with the help of our Women’s Network and Next Generation Network (members of different ages, hierarchies and departments), many innovative and creative actions such as the Labyrinth of the Senses, sign language training & the performance of the well-known song “Imagine”, the virtual event with Christina Leimonis (Marketing & Operations Director at Microsoft) who is a member of a same-sex family, 5 mental health trainings on different topics, 2 mental health days outside our offices, psychological safety workshops, the GENYX- Insights Questionnaire, we renovated our offices to be accessible.

In 2024, the Women’s Network carried out a series of actions such as

International Women’s Day, Speaker: Stella Kasdagli- Women on Top & Panel discussion with members of the Women’s Network
Workshop on personal branding / Women empowerment with Sofia Klotsa Life & Executive Coach.
Collaboration with WIN Hellas – live presentation on the topic of eliminating violence against women.
DEI month – collaboration with Liberty, the school of guide dogs for the blind. Experiential experience in our offices with the help of guide dogs.
Men's Day | live discussion with a psychologist on the place of men in society today.
Virtual coffees – discussions on all kinds of topics, such as self-care, nutrition, menopause, decoration

At MSD, we foster an inclusive, safe environment that encourages free expression and embraces diversity. We advocate for a workplace of equal opportunity and inclusion, where all employees feel safe and free to create and innovate. We consciously seek diversity in all its forms and aim for all employees to feel comfortable in their work environment and to freely express their opinions.

Our data shows that

48% of employees are women.

54% of the management team are women.
43% of women hold managerial positions
40% of people managers are women.
30% of new hires in the last 2 years came from different industries.
5 different nationalities and 4 generations make up our workforce.
3 employees with a disability rate of up to 80%.

The results of our actions and initiatives

Pulse Survey (employee survey): 86% positive responses to the evaluation of managers for implementing inclusive team management methods.
11 fathers have made use of the 12-week paternity leave offered by our company.
Since the implementation of the parental policy, our company has subsidized 19 new parents (11 fathers and 8 mothers) with over €215,000.
88% of employees who participated in the internal survey on gender equality believe that women and men have equal opportunities for development in our company.
Cultivating a more inclusive culture provided an additional incentive to improve the accessibility of offices. To date, we have invested approximately 70,000 Euros in office accessibility

Today, the MSD family employs 3 disabled people (with a disability rate of up to 80%) and we have employees who have children with disabilities. A colleague, on the occasion of a relevant event we held on diversity, felt particularly comfortable and spoke openly about what the daily life of a working mother raising an autistic child is like.

Finally, MSD's actions in the field of DEI have been honored with a series of awards in recent years.

Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2023

MSD received a Gold Award in the “Best in Pharma” category at the Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2023 for all its actions regarding inclusion, acceptance of diversity, women's empowerment and equality.

Certification as a Great Place to Work in Greece for the period 2023-24, by the international organization Great Place to Work.
