Since 2004, and following the adoption of its Environmental Policy, the Bank actively supports Green Business.

For a decade, Piraeus Bank Group under the Environmental Policy and Strategy supports the needs of individuals and businesses offering a variety of specialized products and services to invest in renewable energy, energy savings, responsible and organic farming, waste and water management, green chemistry, ecotourism-agri-tourism and green transport. These products are offered with favourable terms and simple and flexible procedures. An important feature of these products is the specialized guidance for customers to improve the performance of their investments. Piraeus Bank’s Green Banking cooperates with both the public and private sector: Non-governmental organisations, national institutions, research companies and state government bodies.

Specialized executives of Piraeus Bank are in key branches of the network, serving the needs of the consolidated clientele associated with green investments.

The specialized products and services of Piraeus Bank are primarily developed for Greece. Piraeus Bank Group finances companies and individuals to invest in green business in the Balkans, as well.

Piraeus Bank through Environmental Banking has supported sectors of green business with substantial funding, thereby creating or maintaining more than 17,000 jobs.

Still, by strengthening Environmental Banking, Renewable Energy installations were developed with a capacity of 800 MW, altering the country's electricity field and contributing to avoiding the annual release of more than 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), an amount that would require 80 million trees for absorption.

Over the last three years and despite the adverse economic conditions, Piraeus Bank remains focused to its commitment to tangible support green business while constantly adapting its existing green products to meet the changing market conditions.

At year end 2013, the total financing for green investments by Piraeus Bank reached € 1,6 billion.

Customers with at least one green product amounted to 16,367 by the end of 2013, while Piraeus Bank has financed 20% of the total installed power capacity in renewable energy in Greece.
