CanSat in Greece

CanSat in Greece is a pan-Hellenic space competition organized by SPIN – Space Innovation, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the World CanSat & Rocketry Competition (WCRC).

Participants are tasked with designing and building an educational satellite, the size of a soda can, that carries out a space mission they have envisioned. The satellite is launched, at an altitude of 1 km, embedded in a rocket manufactured by SPIN and then released from it. After being released from the rocket, the satellite lands safely using a parachute, carrying out the team's chosen mission.

The competition lasts 8 months from its announcement and has two categories, one for high school students and one for students. The winning team of the student category directly advances to the CanSats in Europe competition, organized by ESA. The winning team of the student category advances directly to the WCRC global competition.

The mission of CanSat in Greece is to give participants the opportunity to experience all the stages of a real space program.

Teams are responsible for envisioning a space mission, designing their satellite, conducting market research, building it, testing it, launching it, analyzing and presenting the data it has collected.

Through this process, participants:

  • They achieve better results through cooperation and teamwork.
  • They come into contact with modern technologies, which are used in many applications.
  • They gain practical experience in areas related to space technologies.
  • They familiarize themselves with the methodology on which the research is based.
  • They learn how to manage an entire project.
  • They practice their communication skills.
  • Secondary Education Students
  • Secondary Education Teachers
  • Higher Education Students

The competition lasts 6 months and is implemented annually.
