AstraZeneca: Comprehensive Program “Protecting the Environment with Actions”

Multi-year environmental protection program (clean-ups, reforestation, energy upgrades, student education), combining investments in sustainability with employee engagement.

2019–2024 (ongoing until 2030).

Since 2019, AstraZeneca Greece has been implementing the “Protecting the Environment with Actions” program, including:

  • Beach clean-ups.
  • Reforestation in Neos Voutzas.
  • Installation of 20 solar LED columns in parks of Athens and Thessaloniki.
  • Sustainability seminars in 23 schools (1,150 students).
  • Reforestation: 4,000 trees (2023), 8,000 trees (2024), with a pledge of 30,000 trees by 2030.
  • This action is part of the AZ Forest global initiative (200M trees by 2030).

iSea, WE4ALL, Municipality of Athens, Municipality of Thessaloniki.

All 250 employees actively engaged.

Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa, Heraklion, Neos Voutzas, Greek coastlines.
  • Clean-ups: 1,750 m of coastline, 450 kg waste, 20 kg recyclables.
  • Reforestation: 200 trees in Neos Voutzas (absorbing 2,933 kg CO₂/year).
  • Educational seminars: 1,150 students reached.
  • Tree planting: 12,000 trees planted by 2024 (~468,000 kg O₂ annually at maturity).
  • Strengthened environmental responsibility profile.
  • Employees as ambassadors of company values.
  • Enhanced ESG indicators and competitive advantage.
